These are two bookmarks that ask the eternal question: What Would Thor Do?
I did both of these from the same filet crochet pattern, which I designed myself. The only difference between the two is that I had to add two rows to the "openwork" one to allow for a border.
This also clearly illustrates the difference between openwork and closed-work filet crochet.
I like the openwork one better. It's lacier and looks more "free".
I did these with a #7 steel hook and size 10 crochet thread. They are quite large - perhaps I'll acquire some tatting thread (size 30) in the future, and see if I can scale them down a bit.
All I have to do is spray with fabric stiffener and block. My favorite part of crochet

Amigurumi Apple

This was a bit bigger than I thought it would be, but it made up quickly (2 hours or so) and was really fun to make!

I found the pattern at the Lion Brand Yarn web site, although I very much doubt that I actually used Lion Brand Yarn for the pattern - it was probably the run-of-the-mill Red Heart that I had, just lying around the house. cool, huh?!

Breakfast is served!

The bacon is from Lion Brand Yarn. Instead of Lion brand yarn, I used Red Heart TLC 'Barn Red' and a mystery tan yarn (probably a Red Heart Super Saver worsted), and it came out awesome!

And I modified the egg pattern from Monster Crochet.

How did I modify it? As written, the egg was made to be sewn on a cuff, so the yolk is hollow. I just did rounds 1, 2, and 5 in white yarn, and then continued with 6, 7, and 8. That way, you can make the yolk as instructed in the original pattern, and sew the yolk on the white, without ever having to tie on another yarn. Just stuff a bit of fiberfill in the yolk as you sew it on, and you're good to go!

I just put the coffee cup in the picture because it looked SO right. I hope you agree!

I did both bacon and eggs with an F hook.

Amigurumi Coffee and Cookies

I couldn't resist making this one - it was too cute!

I got the pattern for the coffee at Bittersweet's blog, and I found the pattern for the cookies at Thriftyfun.com. The "coffee" took me three or four hours to make. As I've said before, crocheting is mainly a leisure activity for me, so I tend to be a bit pokey. I could have finished it quicker, but it would take all the enjoyment out of it!

It is pretty neat, though, huh?

I was amazed at how simple these were to make - although, I do wish that I didn't have to sew so much! :D

I found the pattern on the Crochetville forum.

And as you might have guessed- the heads of the pins are the "sprinkles"!

Amigurumi Sushi!!!!

For my next trick, I will make some amigurumi sushi. Although it has been said that the technique used to make them is technically not amigurumi - probably due to the fact that most of it is sewing the pieces together (UGH!) - the results are well worth the temporary unpleasantness endured by the craftsman making them:

The top row is nigiri-type sushi. From left to right: surf clam, shrimp, crab meat, and tamago.
The bottom is roll-type sushi, one salmon roe garnished with cucumber, and the other a makizushi roll.
This was commissioned by my friend Heather. Someday soon, I will see her again, and it will be hers - all hers!!!

This amigurimi carrot was done with an E hook. Red Heart sport yarn for the carrot, and mystery sport green yarn for the greens on top.
